Longman dictionary of Contemporary English defines Spearhead
“as a person or a group who initiates and leads a course
of action with force”. In other words, Spearhead denotes
“a driving force or aggressive leadership.”
The term has its origins in the medieval war history when each
army had a leading military unit of spear-wielding soldiers who
were the frontline. This unit began the attack and forcefully
led the entire army to victory. The term was also used to describe
a military tactic where armoured tanks were used to form the front
of an offensive thrust during a battle
Further, the spear has been traditionally used as a symbol of
knowledge and wisdom in India.
